As Covid-19 has affected the economy of nations, it has also impacted directly or indirectly food availability and consumption. Most food establishments have sustained production during the pandemic to sustain the export and import market. Countries have different experiences in food supplies with the pandemic. Some countries report that “groceries were hard to find for millions and that it is getting even worse (www.edition.cnn.com/2020/06/09/business/food-deserts-coronavirus-grocery-stores/index.html). Also, the approach, including innovative approaches by different countries in handling challenges in food supply, especially perishable commodities, semi-processed perishable foods differ. Sharing experiences from different countries could help food supply during the unpredicted similar pandemic.
The Special Interest Group “SIG Postharvest-Handling” of the ISEKI-Food Association (https://www.iseki-food.net/about/sigs/sig-postharvest-handling) is planning to organize a free webinar on 17 July 2020 focused on “Postharvest food handling in the Covid-19 crisis”, sharing their experiences in different regions of the world, including export and import regulations as well as the availability of different categories of food. The webinar will be informative in the necessary preparation for disruptions in the food value chain during a crisis.
We are looking for speakers from different countries or geographical regions of the world to share experiences on Postharvest food handling during the pandemic from the perspective of their different countries/region.
