On September 15-16, 2011, an important event for our university took place, which became a notable milestone on the way of our integration into the European university community. It was during these days that the 23rd anniversary of the foundation of the Great Charter of Universities was celebrated. The idea of creating the Great Charter was formulated during a meeting of rectors of the oldest universities in Europe in 1986. The Organizing Committee, formed in 1987 at the conference in Bologna, developed the text of the Charter document, which was signed at the University of Bologna on September 18, 1988, in the year of the 900th anniversary of the University of Bologna, which is believed to be the oldest university in Europe.
It is important to note that the initiative to launch the Great Charter arose in the university environment itself, and the provisions of the Charter itself are decisive for the formation of the foundations of university autonomy, academic freedom, free dissemination and exchange of knowledge, i.e. these provisions are a reflection of high European standards of humanism, recognition

of the inviolability of the basic rights of the individual, tolerance and mutual respect, in fact,
a reflection of the basic principles of building a civil society.
Our university sent an application to join the Great Charter as early as last October. The governing body of the Great Charter of Universities positively considered our application, and at the beginning of the summer, an invitation was received from the rector of the university, Professor S.V.Ivanov to participate in the XXIII Conference and sign the Great Charter of Universities.
